The Story
The Bagley Sports & Social Club opened in 2010 on Ellesmere Road in Greenfields, replacing the old Railway Club that had stood nearby since the era of the Shrewsbury rail yards. It was built from scratch by a community that wanted somewhere to drink properly, play sport and gather — and the result shows in the record it has built since.
CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, has named it Club of the Year in 2017, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024. That is not an accident. The bar is run with the kind of attention to cask ale that most dedicated pubs never achieve, and the range changes regularly. The two bowling greens outside are used by teams across a range of ages. Pool and darts inside.
The club is a members' club, but new members are always welcome and the process is straightforward. Greenfields is about a mile north of the town centre — a car or a short taxi ride, but worth it if real ale and genuine local character are what you are after.
